A maternity DNA test works in the same way as the paternity test but instead of a father, the maternity test determines the biological relationship between an alleged mother and a child.
But why would someone need a maternity test? Doesn’t the mother already know that they are the biological mother?
Well, it is true but there are some cases where maternity tests are required for instance I case of adopted children. Almost all of the adopted children look for their real parents at some point in their life. In such cases, a DNA maternity test can be the final step to finding the absent biological mother.
Or if we flip the above case upside down a new case where the parents are trying to find their long-lost biological child arises.
The procedure of the maternity test is usually the same as the paternity test. The alleged mother and the child in question are required to submit their DNA sample that will be tested for determining maternity.
All they have to do to submit a DNA sample is a cheek swab test.
In cheek swab test the person is asked to rub the inner part of their check or buccal cavity with a cotton swab and then send that sample for the testing.
The specialist then runs the test on the samples from both parties and then compare the result to look for any kind of biological connection between them.
Precaution
Avoid intake or consumption of any kind of material that might produce error in the result or degrade the quality of the sample. No eating or smoking for 1 hour before the sampling is suggested.
