Nowadays the DNA test and court proceedings go hand in hand. DNA can be used to solve a variety of cases with little to no error. We all saw the programs where the criminal was identified using the forensic test. It is the most known use of DNA testing and, is done for determining the criminal based on the DNA sample found at the crime scene. But due to the genre, these programs never show other uses of DNA that can be useful in court proceedings.
There is one other DNA test that is used very frequently in the court to solve many kinds of cases and that test is the Prenatal Paternity DNA test.
Court admissible prenatal paternity test is the test done solely to solve a case related to the unborn child. Some of these cases are:
- Paternity- the prenatal DNA test can be used to determine whether the alleged father is the biological parent of the child. This can be done by using the DNA sample from the alleged father and comparing it against the DNA profile of the unborn child.
- Legitimacy- the DNA test can prove the legitimacy of the child in cases of child support and child custody.
- Inheritance- the test can be used in cases where the father is absent and the inheritance is to be decided.
- Infidelity- there are cases where the paternity test was used to determine if the mother has committed infidelity.
DNA testing services center can provide legal DNA tests that can be used in court proceedings. But there are some cases where the court rejects the DNA test as evidence. For example, in case the test was done from a non-accredited lab, or if the lab has a bad reputation and a history of false results. So choosing the correct lab for a legal DNA test is very important.
